From a small town meadow to the top of the shooting world
My Journey
I am Anton Belak. I have been serving shooting sports for more than 50 years. I have been working as a professional coach for over 40 years.
I was born in a small town, and I came from shooting in the meadow to the national team. Although I was successful as a junior, I did not know enough to evolve efficiently.
When I was 19, I got an invitation to an army club where I could become a professional athlete. At the same time, I got accepted to a university where I could learn to become a successful coach.
I decided to study with the idea of continuing as an amateur. Unfortunately, my performance subsided so much that I was fired from the national team and lost my equipment and weapons.
As a student, I didn’t have the means to buy quality gear, and returning to my old level didn’t make sense. I was deeply disappointed because I lost what I really loved.
One year before the end of my studies, I received an offer from my coach to work in a top sports centre. I accepted the offer.
How did I find the right shooting technique?
As a shooter, I wanted to know precisely how to reach top performance. Through anatomy, biomechanics, psychology and sports didactics, I searched for where I had gone wrong as an athlete.
Later, as a trainer, I devoted all my energy to finding the correct methods. I trained all day and lived in a simple room on the shooting range to avoid wasting time travelling.
I spent many sleepless nights looking for the right technique. I made progress as a coach, but the real solutions still weren’t coming.
I even started autohypnosis and meditation, because everyday thinking seemed to hide the solutions. Through years of this work I learned to quiet the mind and perceive more clearly.
And suddenly, during one meditation, it came — light at the end of the tunnel. Using that insight, everything started to make sense.
I followed those ideas, developed them, and still accept new ones. Turn off the noise, stay patient, and the solution comes. The idea of live online training came the same way.
Together with my wife Anna
My wife Anna Belakova and I do our best so that our shooters succeed at the international level. Athletes we have coached have won many major competitions.
I have been a professional coach since 1986. Anna started coaching a few years later, after she finished her own shooting career.
We worked with national teams in Slovakia, Switzerland, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, and with many shooters from the national squad of India.
In 2017–2019 I was head coach of the highly successful Project Leap (Gun For Glory Shooting Academy and Olympic Gold Quest, India).
We created this website so shooters far from big centres can still get deep, high-level knowledge.
We started in small clubs with limited information. Through effort and the right approach we reached national level as athletes and top international level as coaches.
We speak English, Russian, German and Slovak — an open door to our shooting family worldwide.
Successes
Our athletes have achieved outstanding results. Anton is the only coach whose athletes have won the ISSF Shooter of the Year title three times.
Olympic medals and the world championship title ten times, plus world records and many medals at World Championships, European and Asian Championships, World Cups and Finals.
In 2019, Elavenil Valarivan (IND) trained under Project Leap and within two years rose from junior level to the top of the ISSF Women’s Air Rifle World Rankings.
In 3×40: 1185 and often 1180+. In AR: 633.2, with juniors already over 630. Strong results also in 3×20 (590+).
Who are our students?
In recent years we have coached athletes from Mexico, the USA, India, Germany and other countries. Our online athletes achieve strong results — for example 590+ in 3×20.
We know almost all of them only online. Still, their performance grows quickly: new national records, medals at German Championships, Slovak Championships, and more.
How does live online training work?
Training is a live video call. We see the shooter clearly, as if we were standing right behind them. We use phones and computers according to what the shooter has available.
